While we were in shifting, er moving i mean house hopping, When we rested at night I had my sewing machine packed, but I felt the urge to sew... so I was snooping.. reading my favorite blogs I fell in love with these hexies. I gave it a go...
My very first hand sewn hexie!
My kit I keep beside me..
These are alot of fun to make!
Anyone else making these hexies? The one shown above is 1 inch hexies. I cut all the hexies myself. i have also cut 1.25 hexies and 3/4 hexies!
have not really been in the mood to do anything, well..i got my lil twister template and the book that goes with it, almost finished a wall hanging size...in blue of corse!
We have had to move house.. you know the fun of packing, cleaning, shifting, storing a heap of "stuff" we (I) have collected (fabric) over the years.
We live on the farm and the farm comes with the house etc.. the new manager wanted the house we were in, so ok, we had to move. Now they have hired a new worker, so we have to move out of this house for him and his family. Now we have to move house again!
Just had a look at a house we are able to stay for a couple weeks..smells highly of cat p*ss. I am not happy with this house. But what to do..
For being such a stink blogger, in the middle of packing, we are shifting house. Why? Because the house we are in is for farm workers only and my man has had enough milking 600 plus cows after milking for 30 plus years. No one wants to see the mess, but if I have time I will post some messy photos tomorrow :P
How lazy and ill I have been. Well if you dont know I suffer with depression and many days I get tired so easily its stupid! I want to sew and make quilts but I do not have the energy I just want to sleep, lazy huh!?
I went to my monthly quilt club in Whangarei (New Zealand in case you don't know where or what Whangarei is) I became a member and very proud of it. These ladies are so golly gosh friendly and very helpful! We had a silent auction (we quietly bid for the books we would like to win and end of meeting the winners are announced) Well I won 2 books!
Do you know how happy this made me?? I love puppies and kittens I had to bid a couple times, how dare they bid against me (just kidding) ;)
Here is what we look like...
I love this club, they have made me feel at home from the very first day I attended to see what this group was like. I could not wait to join as these ladies are so very friendly I cannot believe it! I am a proud member of the Whangarei Quilt Club of New Zealand!!
Some of the ladies had "Show and tell", this time I took my camera! Take a look at these master pieces!!..
AWESOME!!! But wait theres more!!
These ladies are very talented!!
Last but not least, you are aware of Pam Bono and her beautiful patterns? She has a new website and has her own club too. From the club this is what I made...
This is ment to be a 12 1/2 inch block but mine came out 12-1/2 x 11-1/2... I had to unpick the bonnent and body pieces as they were not lined around the neck..hence why I lost an inch..maybe I measured wrong or missed something? *shrugs* Has anyone else tried it? Please let me know?
Because after my class I ended up ill stuck in bed for 2 days then stuck on my chair for another 2 days helpless. I managed to drive myself to the doctor and found out i had a nasty case of strep throat. I could not swallow.
I have to say it was murder to swallow. I had the most lovelyist doctor there is. She was very gentle and caring. I know all doctors are, but this lady was the friendlyist I have even been treated by. She even asked me if I wanted my medication in liquid form... I darn near cried when she asked me this, I nodded with puppy dog eye filled with tears on my face. She even offered me n ice cold water drink as she knew I was very thirsty.
4 days no sewing. Mind you I have not been well enough to do anything till today. I cannot wait when I am 100% better again. The smallest job is very draining, one would not think so as it is your throat, but I had aches all over my body and could barely move. We seem to think I caught this from the quilting class as before then I was fine. It was still a fun day sewing with everyone tho..
Was yesturday, but was too tired to post, so left it for today. Good news and bad news.
What do you want first?
Bad news first huh? Okay.... Bad news is..with all this stress happening on the farm..(will get to that) I forgot to pay for my quarter inch foot and folded my class instructions needed for that class with the quarter inch foot and put them in my bag. When it came to class day she was right in my face accusing me of stealing saying how hurt she was after all they did for me and how bad the store is doing right now etc. I was very happy to pay for it and did straight away. I am no theif it was completely by accident. Then for 2 days I was looking for my 5 inch tumbler template..just happened to look up and there it was pinned to my cork board. I had forgotton I put it there!
Good news.. I had an awesome time at oour quilt class. Rhonda Chandler from Australia (I think) that is a wholesaler/quilter for Floriani Embroidery was here to promote their product and held some classes. I went to her Aplique Sampler class. Here is her finished project...
This is Rhonda's.
Here is mine...
Not much huh? Was an all day class too. 9.30am to 3pm. We did however made samples for our own sample book of Floirani product line, like embrodery samples like a free standing butterfly on wet and gone. A redwork flower on linen and a anchor and rope on linen. I started the applique but then wanted to do the items the other ladies were doing as I was the only one making the applique wall hanging and felt out of sorts.
Rhonda is the lovely lady on the far right hand side wearing a pretty purple shirt and skirt. I am the one taking the photo so you cannot see how fugly I is :P
But here is my sewing/embroidery machine sewing the butteryfly..
You can see a couple of the flowers ready and waiting for the butterfly to finish. But then it was time to come home.
Was a lovely day other then being accused of theifting.
i forgot to say why it was a stressful day. My stepson has been fired from his farm managers job. Afew days later his boss which is also his uncle, had him by the throat and darn near choked him! Thank goodness he filed a report incase something else happens. We are thinking of leaving too, will be trying hard to pay off our bills and credit cards then we are going to fudge off before anything more happens. We feel The boss has lost his marbles. I guess that is no excuse to forget to pay for the 1/4 inch foot, but everyone was busy chatting and no one was going to serve me and was talking about the class and getting some prices on batting. But I did pay for the foot and told her I had full intention of paying. I will be extra careful when there and make sure no one is busy so I can pay and not be accused again. I should have been more careful.
I have just recieved my first months fabric for the first 3 blocks for Dear Jane BOM - Rainbow. I have had this book for afew years. What better way to get started but to join this BOM and sew along with others! I will place some photos in the posting tomorrow as my sinus is giving me h3ll right now. I am just excited to tell you about it!
I am also hopping to join the Quilters Gallery swap and chain. Fingers crossed! I have submitted the information, just waiting to hear back now.
Here is a peek of my first kit from Twiddletails, Anina is one very friendly lady!
We interupt this ramble to bring you an announcment...electric fences are just that..electric. They do and will bite your a$$ when climbing the fence where you are not suppose to and get bitten. i have the scar, burn hole, hole in my trousers to prove it. Only thing hurt is my pride.
1 2 block(s) are now finally finished..
3 more to go. What do you think? Or have I scared you away from the horror of previuos photos?
I have startitis and finishphobia in quilts. I have started another 2 projects and still have not finished any. I am not addicted.
I cannot help it if I happen to stumble across a tutorial I just MUST start! It's your fault to feed my appetite in making the tutorials for people to come across that we have to start! :p
I have started This project and this project I tell you I am not addicted, just trying the measurements to see if they are correct...yea thats it, one must find out if its right, right? cannot have a tutorial that just might have a typo or or or might be wrong or or or dont like that fabric so you must try that awesome...sweet...must start it project in your pick of fabric to see if it looks nice, yea...i like that..see not addicted at all..
I promise to send something handmade to the first 3 people who leave a comment here. To be eligible, you must also post this in your blog, offering the same thing to 3 other people. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 3 people in 2011. If you're game, leave a comment and sometime this year, I will surprise you with something handmade.
I know I'm doing something similar on facebook. So if I'm doing something for you on there, you don't need to respond here. However, for the first three who do respond here, I'll make you something and send it/give it to you sometime this year. :) Don't forget, put this on your blog and continue paying it forward. :)
Bought some more fabric..not that I really need some! But we can never have enough right?! I just need to wait for the mail man to deliver them then I will take some photos and see if I can put them on this thing somehow. I know it can be done as I have seen other people show their fabric!
